For a Home Business to Make Money Online - Use Google This Way

This is the ninth article in a series on How to Achieve Internet Business Success.

In the last two articles we delved into market research after you discovered your areas of interest and passion. We had to determine if there was sufficient demand for what you want to offer online.

Now we need to drill deeper and get a little more scientific in our research. For this we'll require the use of programs we call "tools" such as Google's Keyword Research Tools. There are lots of others but Google's are free and they are excellent. Who has better data to feed into a research tool than Google does? Nobody.

Since Google dominates internet searches, and since they maintain data on every search made within their search engine, Google has become the defacto "Alpha and Omega" -- beginning and end -- when it comes to Keyword research and market research on the internet.

The wonderful thing about Google is that it is a one-stop shop for market research because they can tell us both the supply and demand.
Google can tell us how many thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of times a search term is used every month.
They can even tell us the search volume trends month to month to see which topics are hot and which are cooling off.
In addition, Google can tell us the "supply" of existing websites and web pages that meet the demand.
Demand is shown by the number of Keyword searches. The "supply" is shown by the number of results that come up on a Google search. These are competing web pages.
How do you find the data you are looking for on Google?

The Supply side of the equation is found by looking at the number of Results displayed on your computer screen after you enter in a search term.
Note the different numbers of Results you get when you put your search words (Keyword) inside quote marks or inside brackets.
Quote marks give you what's called "phrase match" and brackets give you "exact match".
Phrase Match means all of the words in your Keyword phrase are used in the search term but not necessarily in the same order, and there may be other words.
Exact Match searches will give you fewer Results but may be more targeted for your needs, and this is often used when doing Keyword research.
