Goal Setting For Owners of Internet Home Businesses

I am writing this document for people who own and operate Internet Home Businesses because their circumstances are unique. They have the flexibility of being able to operate from home, which is great, I do so myself, but along with this flexibility comes the drawback of being so close to potential distractions.

Right now, as I am trying to type this, I have Logan; my 14-year-old cat determined that he can help me do this task, by sitting on my keyboard. This is a regular occurrence and I sometimes end up having to close the door on him in order to do any work. I do not have any children, just 4 cats, but I can just imagine the potential for interruptions from children during your workday at home. If you operate Internet Home Businesses, you need to be especially diligent about setting goals, and keeping them, in light of the work environment we all operate in.

Listed below you will find some thoughts on Goal Setting. I have always found it strange that for something as critical to our success as setting and then achieving our goals, that we spend so little time on this crucial process. This article is not meant to be an all inclusive list, just some thoughts that I hope you find useful in helping you look at this very important process in a different light than before.

Goal Setting For Operators of Internet Home Businesses Is Not a One Time Activity

This is probably one of the most important aspects of Goal Setting that I would like to get across to you today. In real time, it's January 5th, 2010, the time most people think about New Years Resolutions and setting goals for the coming year. Unfortunately, most people have abandoned their resolutions by mid January and are back in their old habits long before they see February 1st.

My point here is this, setting and establishing our goals, has to be an ongoing process, it does not have a beginning, and it certainly, does not have an end. You want to look at setting goals as an ongoing process, one that is part of your daily structure. I hope you are working with an established Time Management system, something that helps you organize your day to day activities, and one that allows you to monitor your progress in not only establishing your goals, but allows you to monitor them as you move through your day to day routine.

That aside for a moment. Thinking about goal setting as an ongoing process, helps to bring some relevancy to the process. If you look at setting goals as something that you do once a year and then when they fizzle out, you just forget the process, you can see how the process and the results will be shuffled to the back burner very quickly. Here are some quick points to help integrate your goal setting process, into your day-to-day activities.

Time Activate specific tasks on a daily basis, into your Day Planner that directly relate to specific goals. This will help to keep the goals front and center.
Keep a record of the days when the activities are completed. If you see that you are not able to keep up with the demands of certain goals, re organize your time, or re think the feasibility of achieving those goals in the time frame allowed.
Goals that are not being met have to be either assigned a different time table, re a assigned back into your Power Living Life List, or re evaluated as to whether you want to continue with this particular goal or not.
The worse thing that you can do is to simply allow the goal to just whither away, from lack of attention. Internet Home Businesses need attention, time, and resources to flourish. Proper Goal setting is a key element in getting your Internet Home Businesses to be successful and profitable. I hope I have given you some insight into Goal Setting. At the very least, I hope you will take away from this article one important point, integrate Goal Setting into your day to day activities and when you find you are unable to achieve them in the time frame you would like, re think and re organize. It's worth the effort.
